SelfControl
selfcontrolapp.com

A macOS blocker that locks distracting websites for a chosen period.

Source discussion: Attention is all you have

I use SelfControl for Mac and set the down time to around 15 days. No Youtube no news sites etc. Except HN. It's helped a lot, after a week you can notice measurable change in attention and habit and productivity.

A speculative-decoding drafter collection for accelerating supported local language models.

Source discussion: M5 Ultra Mac Studio Review

So yeah base might be 30tps (I used iq4) but mtp or dflash help a lot and should be used when checking what is useful and what is not for running models as it is not fare to judge without them.

HERMES radio
hermes.radio

An open shortwave terminal for resilient long-distance voice and digital communication.

Source discussion: HERMES radio enables voice and data communication over vast distances

My initial thought is that this is a cool way to try and get more resilient communications technology in the hands of those who need it most in the Global South, and it's awesome it was successfully used for a Pan Pan.

The Intercept's collected reporting based on documents supplied by Edward Snowden.

Source discussion: What happened to the Snowden archive

While I heard many of the headlines the reporting is very in depth, including a bunch of smaller details worth poking into. I'd recommend people who are interested and who haven't done so yet to just read a couple of these.

A remaster of the noir-inspired classic adventure game set in the afterlife.

Source discussion: Grim Fandango Puzzle Document (1996) [pdf]

The art work, the music, the writing. The whole game oozes of style that I've never seen replicated. Even some 20+ years later I can almost recite most of Act I from heart. If you haven't played this game and like adventure games, this is one of the best.

A Nintendo 64 tactical RPG with branching endings and a deep class system.

Source discussion: Ogre Battle 64 Recompiled Project at 99.05%

It was one of the best games of the system, and I think OB64 in particular gets overlooked next to Tactics Ogre and Final Fantasy Tactics due to the lack of Matsuno's involvement. But it's head and shoulders better than the original Ogre Battle, and can stand toe-to-toe with Matsuno's best.
